“Do you know why you’re here?”

A young Selina Kyle is seen sitting in an office of a social worker. Selina looks to be about fifteen. Some facial features are recognizable but other then that, you wouldn’t think of her as the woman you knew today. She is wearing hand-me-down clothes and her hair is a bit of a mess. She rolled her eyes at the woman across from her.

“Because they didn’t want me anymore.”

“Selina, families would be more than happy to take you in if you would just behave.”

“They just want the money. They don’t want to deal with me. I’m an ‘at-risk youth’. They think if they help someone like me, they will sleep better at night. But really they just want the money.”

“You don’t think they want to help?”

“I learned what the world was like when I was eleven. No one cares about you. You can only trust yourself and do whatever it takes to survive.”
----
“I knew you were trouble.”

She turned around as she heard a man enter the room. She was a couple years older now, just eighteen. She didn’t flinch at his gaze, or the gun aimed at her.

“But you wanted a pretty girl in your bed. Leave it to a man’s libido to beat out his instincts,” she said as she turned her head back to the safe that she was cleaning out. She heard him take the safety off.

“You think you can steal from me, you bitch?”

“You won’t miss it. This won’t make even a dent in your bank account.” She stood and turned to look at him. “Unlike you, other people have to work hard to scrape by.” She sat on the nearby window ledge. “This won’t last. You won’t be able to step on those with less while never looking back.”

“I don’t need a speech from a whore.”

“I think you do. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” Selina did a back flip out of the window, just narrowly missing the bullet that was intended for her.

---
The scene switches to a masquerade party where Selina is dressed in a black dress with a black lace mask and cat ears. She is dancing with Bruce Wayne, and not looking too thrilled. They were in the middle of a conversation.

“I started off doing what I had to do. Once you’ve done what you had to they’ll never let you do what you want,” said Selina while staring at Bruce with contempt.

“Start fresh.”

Selina rolled her eyes. “There’s no fresh start in today’s world. Any twelve-year-old with a cell phone can find out what you did. Everything we do is collated and quantified. Everything sticks. We are the sum of our mistakes.”

“Or our accomplishments.”

“The mistakes stick better. Trust me.” Her wrap sheet was incredibly long with all of her mistakes.

Bruce raises an eyebrow. “And you think that justifies stealing?”

“I take what I need from those who have more than enough. I don’t stand on the shoulders of people with less,” she said giving him a look.

“Robin Hood?”

“I’d do more to help someone than most of the people in this room. Than you.”

“Maybe you’re assuming too much.”

“Or maybe you’re being unrealistic about what’s really in your pants other than your wallet.”

Bruce feigned a hurt expression. “Ouch.”

Selina looked up at him. “You think this can last?”

Bruce takes a look around the room at the party.

Selina leans up and whispers to him, “There’s a storm coming Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.” She smirked and pulled back a little.

“Sounds like you’re looking forward to it.”

Selina gave a small shrug, “I’m adaptable.”

Bruce’s eyes land on the pearls around her neck. “Those pearls do look better on you then in my safe…” Bruce rolls her into his shoulder, reaches up to the back of her neck and unclasps the necklace. “But I still can’t let you keep them.”

The pearls slid off her neck and into his other hand. Selina looks at him angrily. Then she kisses him, hard, and disappears into the crowd.

An older gentleman comes up and hands Bruce his cane while vehemently saying, “You scared her off!”

Bruce stood there and said to himself, “Not likely…”

There's no doubt about it, it was be travesty. If that happens, I say we do the next best thing: we'll make our own fashion magazine with you on the cover and we'll call it— [jazz hands] Selina.

Well Miss Selina, I could say the same about you.
